Member of the Greens Party
Giz has been a member of The Greens (WA) since
1991. Her parliamentary career began when she won a Legislative Council
seat for the North Metropolitan Region, the seat which encompasses 14
electorates and approximately 340,000 electors.
Her portfolio areas take in social justice;
multiculturalism; coastal issues; urban bushland; health, science and
technology; women's and gay issues; aged, housing and disabilities.
Giz holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental
Science from Murdoch University and in 1992 became one of three women
registered builders in Western Australia.
Her interest in the green movement in WA has led
to her current active involvement in the Australian Marine Conservation
Society; the Coastal Waters Alliance of WA; Friends of Bold Park;
Friends of Moore River; Quinns Rocks Environment Group; the
Environmental Defenders Office; and the Australian Conservation
Foundation.
